NordVPN is a solid product that bills you every month or every year. GhostShield VPN Premium is a different bet: a WireGuard-based VPN you pay for once. If your daily need is a VPN on your computer and phone, the math favors a one-time payment quickly. The catch is that the lifetime plan is narrower in what it bundles, and its phone support is less clear.
The GhostShield listing describes a WireGuard-based service with RAM-only servers, a kill switch, DNS leak protection, split tunneling and ad and tracker blocking. It also has a Family Mode that blocks gambling and adult content, and an AI Threat Analyzer that flags malicious domains. The listing is clear that it does not replace antivirus software.
Who should switch and who should stay
Switch if you use a VPN mainly on Windows, macOS or Android, you want to stop yearly billing, and you can redeem the code within 30 days. Ten devices at once covers most households and small offices.
Stay on NordVPN if your iPhone or iPad is central to your VPN use, because the listing's iOS support is not confirmed. Stay also if you rely on NordVPN's bundled extras, or you need a long refund window after you activate. The GhostShield refund covers unredeemed codes only.
Cost over three years
NordVPN's Basic plan is about $14.99 a month on monthly billing (list price, October 2026). Longer terms cost much less per month, so check your own rate. Three years on the monthly rate comes to about $540. GhostShield costs $49.99 once. That saves about $490 over three years, and about $130 in the first year.
If you already pay a discounted two-year rate, the gap is smaller. At a two-year Basic rate of about $3.49 a month, three years cost about $126, so the lifetime plan saves about $76 over the same period. In the first year it costs about $8 more, and it breaks even in month 15. The lifetime plan is still cheaper over three years, but the difference is not dramatic, and most NordVPN customers pay a discounted term rate, not the monthly one.
What you lose
You lose the NordVPN extras that come on higher plans, such as threat protection and a password manager, unless you already use them somewhere else. You also lose the larger network. GhostShield lists 20 locations in 16 countries, so check that your favorite regions are covered before you switch.
The page also names no vendor website, no jurisdiction and no independent audit, and a VPN asks you to trust the company with your traffic. Ask for those answers before you pay. The other risk is timing. The 30-day redeem window is short, and the refund after redemption is gone. Set up the new app on one device first, and keep NordVPN running until everything passes.
