Pidock

A Windows desktop turns into a landfill fast. Downloads pile up, project folders sprawl across drives, FTP credentials live in a text file somewhere, and every task starts with digging through File Explorer to find the thing you need. piDock takes the opposite approach: instead of hiding your files inside a launcher, it gives them dedicated docks on the desktop itself.

What piDock actually does

piDock is a native Windows desktop organizer. You create small, resizable docks that hold whatever you want to keep at arm's reach — a folder viewed live, a disk with its free-space meter, a set of FTP servers, a Git repo, a note pad, an encrypted vault, or a one-click action that runs a PowerShell command or opens a URL. Docks snap to alignment guides as you drag them, so a busy desktop still looks organized.

The one AI feature is a local, offline organizer that sorts loose desktop items into sensible categories with one click. Nothing is uploaded — the model runs on your machine — which is unusual for anything shipping with "AI" on the label.

The features that matter

The Gateway dock is the standout: it's a live, resizable view of any folder, sitting directly on your desktop. Files added to that folder appear in the dock; drag something onto the dock and it lands in the folder. It's the fastest way to work with a project folder without keeping an Explorer window open.

The Action dock turns everyday chores into one-click buttons — run PowerShell or Bash commands, launch apps, open documents or URLs, fire off an email, call an HTTP endpoint, or publish an MQTT message. Disk docks show free space and recent activity without you opening Explorer. The Volume dock creates a small virtual drive that appears both as a dock and under This PC, with no administrator rights required and an automatic backup before you delete it. The Vault stores sensitive files and notes with AES-256 encryption.

It stays lightweight — around 75 MB of RAM in normal use, with a 24 MB installer and no bloated background processes. That's a real number, not a marketing one, and it matters if you're already running a browser, an IDE, and a chat client on a mid-spec laptop.

piDock overlaps with a few tools you may already run: launchers (Fences, Nimi Places), an FTP client, a small notes app, an encrypted container, a Git status widget.
