What does CallHero do?
CallHero is an AI-powered call screening and spam blocker app. Unlike simple number-blocking tools, it uses AI to screen callers based on what they say, and only rings your phone when a caller passes the filter. All call data is stored locally on your device with full encryption.
Which carriers does CallHero support?
CallHero was compatible with AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon. It was not available for all carriers, so compatibility was an important factor before purchasing.
How is CallHero different from standard robocall blockers?
Most robocall blockers rely on blacklists of known spam numbers. CallHero uses AI to screen callers by what they actually say during the call, making it harder for novel spam numbers to get through. You can also set custom keywords that automatically allow a call.
What happened to the CallHero app?
The StackSocial deal was sold as a lifetime subscription, but the consumer-facing CallHero spam blocker app appears to have gone quiet. Truecaller acquired an Israeli company also called CallHero in 2022, which created additional confusion around the brand. What are the best alternatives for blocking spam and robocalls?
Robokiller ($4.99/month or $39.99/year) is one of the most widely used alternatives, using Answer Bots to waste spammers' time. Hiya and Nomorobo are also solid choices. Many carriers now include free spam filtering — T-Mobile's ScamShield and Verizon's Call Filter are worth enabling first.
